3 Step IT and sustainable development |
The objective of the 3 Step IT management model is to improve the efficiency of the management of fixed assets, taking environmental values and the principles of sustainable development into account. Our operating model supports environmentally friendly values because the reuse and recycling of equipment causes less strain on the environment than disposal.
3 Step IT aims at finding a new home for all usable equipment returned. For example, more than 95 per cent of all IT equipment returned to 3 Step IT can be reused. Broken devices are recycled or disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.
Of all the energy used during the life cycle of a computer, 80% is consumed in its manufacture. Extending the computer’s service life as far as possible significantly reduces energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions (CO2). In addition, the volume of raw material used in the manufacture and the volume of waste will reduce significantly. (Source: Environmental Science & Technology, 38(12), 2004)
In the 3 Step IT management model, the equipment will be used elsewhere once the original owner removes it from use. The latest technology or products are not required everywhere. 3 Step IT finds a new home for its customers’ old equipment, where it can be continued to be used. Many operators can use technology and products they could not acquire as new.
